Enjoying Fall, but hoping for a few more Summer-ish days to do all the things we should have done but the weather was too nice for chores! If that sounds like you, you're not alone. Now's the time to get your firewood ready for the winter, get in that third cut of hay if you can, and at least think about draining or blowing out your outside water lines. But try to find some time to take a walk, a ride, or a drive and soak in all the colors that you only see now...the golden-yellow-chartreuse leaves with reds and oranges shouting out in between...even the water takes on new colors. So forget those gotta do chores for a bit and grab your dog, your horse, a friend, or someone you know needs a shot of Platte County Color and get outside. Fall in Wyoming is one of the four best seasons there is!
The Fair is over, the eclipse has come and gone, school has begun, and it's not quite hunting season. That means it's officially chokecherry season in Platte County!
You have your favorite spots to go picking, and some of you have already been filling your five-gallon buckets with thise bitter little berries. Here's a recipe for chokecherry jam made with low-sugar honey. Mmmm Mmmm good!
'Fess up and pucker up...does anyone eat these right off the bush?
